AIVA vs Beatoven.ai

Two fact sheets from our own research, side by side — pricing, platforms, API access and status re-checked by us rather than quoted from the vendors. Both have a free tier. Only Beatoven.ai ships a public API.

What our research says

AIVA

Choose AIVA when you need a score you can actually edit and then legally own — its copyright ladder is spelled out more clearly than most rivals. The catch is that everything it makes is instrumental.

Pros

  • Editor exposes the composition itself, not just a rendered audio file
  • More than 250 style presets oriented to scoring use cases
  • One of the longest-running vendors in AI music, active since 2016
  • Free tier exists for evaluating output quality before paying

Cons

  • Free and Standard tiers restrict monetization; full copyright transfer only on Pro
  • Instrumental only, with no vocal generation
  • Euro-denominated pricing, so the dollar cost moves with exchange rates
  • No developer API marketed on the site

Beatoven.ai

Its ethics positioning is unusually concrete — Fairly Trained certification with artist compensation — and the perpetual commercial license on downloads is simple to reason about. The broken public pricing page is a real gap: you must sign in to learn what anything costs, and the catalog is instrumental background music, not finished songs.

Pros

  • Perpetual commercial license on downloaded tracks
  • Fairly Trained certification addresses training-data ethics
  • Separate APIs for generation, SFX, search and music analysis
  • Purpose-built for background scoring rather than song imitation

Cons

  • Public pricing page 404s, hiding costs pre-signup
  • Beatoven retains ownership of generated tracks — you get a license
  • Instrumental-only output
