What our research says

ProofWrite

ProofWrite is built around one specific job: getting AI-written text past detection tools while keeping the meaning intact, verified against a stated list of detectors rather than a vague claim. The catch is that detector behavior changes over time, so passing today's check doesn't guarantee it holds up against a future detector update, and 250 free words isn't much to evaluate quality on your own text.

Pros

  • checks output against seven named detectors rather than just one
  • eight writing modes for different tones, including academic, formal, and blog
  • free tier and no-card signup to test before paying

Cons

  • detector-passing behavior can change whenever those detectors update their models
  • only 250 free words to evaluate before hitting a paywall
  • unlimited-word tier requires the top Ultra plan

QuillBot

QuillBot remains the fastest way to reword a paragraph you have already written, and the free tier is enough for occasional use; Premium at roughly $8 to $20 a month depending on term buys the extra modes, longer inputs and the plagiarism checker that students actually want. Against a general chatbot it wins on speed and a purpose-built interface, not on writing quality, and against Grammarly it is cheaper but narrower.

Pros

  • Free tier includes grammar checking, two paraphrase modes, translation and AI detection
  • Extensions and apps for Chrome, Windows, macOS, Safari, iOS and Android keep it inside the writing surface
  • Paraphrase modes and a synonym slider give more control than a one-shot rewrite prompt
  • Backed by Learneo, a large education group, rather than an anonymous operator

Cons

  • Month-to-month Premium is about 2.4 times the annual rate, so the headline low price assumes a year up front
  • The site blocks automated access, so none of the figures here come from its own pricing page
  • The App Store listing itself disagrees on how many Premium paraphrase modes exist (8 versus 10+)
  • The heavy student use and the AI detector attract academic-integrity scrutiny that can rebound on users

Which one fits

Choose ProofWrite if you need

  • students and academics needing text that reads naturally
  • SEO writers and content teams producing high volumes of AI-assisted copy
  • anyone needing output checked against multiple named detectors at once

Choose QuillBot if you need

  • Students and non-native writers rewording essays and emails sentence by sentence
  • Anyone who wants grammar, paraphrase, summary and citation tools in one browser extension
  • Occasional users, since the free tier handles short rewrites without an account upsell wall
